collection of unusual photo formats

Scanning Unusual Photo Formats

Our clients bring us familiar photo formats including prints, slides, and negatives, but they also bring us unusual photo formats and ask us if we can scan them.

Whether the format is prints, negatives, slides, tintypes, glass plates, scrapbooks, albums, documents, original artwork, framed items, or oversized items the answer is almost always yes.

Sometimes a certain format will require custom equipment or special handling, but if you can see it, we should be able to scan it.

Magic Lantern slide of Glacier National Park

Here’s an interesting example which is called a magic lantern slide. Back in the mid-1600s these were created from hand-drawn artwork and in 1849 the first photographic magic lantern slides were created. This one is from Glacier National Park and is a black and white photo with hand tinting.

If we can scan something this old and unusual, then we can probably scan anything unique in your family collection. Do you have any unusual photo formats you’re wondering about? Post your question below or stop by our studio for a free assessment!
