Should I keep my slide carousels?

At Chaos to Memories, we scan a lot of photo slides for our clients, many that come to us in slide carousels. Slides hold up very well over the decades and usually result in brilliant, detailed scans. They also evoke memories of family slide shows, deep connections, and funny stories.

Many people feel a nostalgic connection to the original slides, but they can take up a lot of space in your home. If you rehouse your slides in space-saving archival storage, you can keep them safe for the future and benefit from massive space savings. Archival storage keeps original slides better preserved and takes up a lot less space than the original carousels.

Here’s an example of 16 slide carousels consolidated to one archival slide storage box. Now this collection fits on a shelf instead of filling an entire closet, and you can discard the bulky slide carousels.

*Note: The cardboard boxes can be recycled, but unfortunately the plastic carousels cannot be recycled.

Photo Scanning Service

Our archival slides scanning service includes:

  • high resolution capture (4000 PPI for slides and negatives),
  • cropping,
  • rotation, and
  • color correction.

We scan everything with the same camera scanning technique that you’ll find in museums and archives around the world, which uses the latest digital imaging technology and is safe and gentle for your old photos. We’ve been scanning for 30 years and our obsession with detail shows in every project.
