Betamax

Betamax (Beta for short) was a consumer analog movie cassette format introduced by Sony in 1975. Betamax offered slightly higher resolution, better sound, and a more stable image than the competing VHS format, but VHS won the format wars. By the early 1980s, the VHS format was the dominant consumer format thanks to lower prices and longer playing times.
