Video Conversion Best Practices

Converting home movies is an amazing process that lets our clients travel back in time to relive memories such as birthdays, weddings, and vacations. Unfortunately, there are many things that can go wrong with a video conversion including:
- moldy tapes
- broken tapes
- incompatible formats
- magnetic decay
One of our clients recently sent her video tapes to a popular online conversion company and they returned 80% of her tapes unconverted but charged her for all of them.
I asked her to bring her tapes to Chaos to Memories so we could try to do a better job. We were relieved that we were able to convert all of her children’s video tapes and she’s thrilled! Unfortunately, we’ve seen this scam going on for years where this large mail-in conversion service claims they can’t convert a client’s videos but still charges for the service.

At Chaos to Memories we:
- Convert more than 30 formats of home movies including tapes, film reels, and DVDs
- Run a tape on at at least three different machines if it isn’t converting well
- Repair tapes that are cracked, torn, or “eaten”
- Clean moldy tapes
- Rename and redate every converted video so you can enjoy a chronological and searchable home movie archive
- Skip any blank or commercial tapes with no charge, so there’s no risk of bringing us too many tapes. You’ll only pay for home movies!
- Deliver every project on a USB thumb drive for maximum speed, reliability, and compatibility. Do NOT trust a conversion service that converts to DVD as it’s not a reliable archival format.
If you have home movies you want to enjoy again, we’d love to help!
