Technicolor Magi-Cartridge

Magi-cartridge is a rare movie film format created by Technicolor around 1960. It’s Standard 8 (clear) or Super 8 (translucent blue) Kodak movie film that was processed and then transferred to a sealed plastic cartridge in an infinite loop configuration. The benefit of the format is that it’s easier to load a magi-cartridge than loading a loose reel of 8mm film. The cartridge design minimizes fingerprints and mishandling, but it also means the film scratches against the cartridge and adjacent film. These cartridges are 3.5 minutes long and most are silent, but later models offered sound recording capability. These cartridges were produced from around 1960-1980 and can be digitized after the film is removed from the sealed cartridge.
