Super 8 film

Super 8 is a motion picture film format released in 1965 by Kodak. The film is 8mm wide, but the dimensions of the rectangular perforations along one edge are smaller then previous formats, which allows for a larger image area. Some Super 8 film also included a metallic stripe upon which sound could be magnetically recorded, but this was very rare. Only about one percent of Super 8 includes audio. Compared with 8mm film, Super 8 has smaller sprocket holes, larger image area, and a larger reel center. Super 8 film can be digitized and preserved as high-definition digital video.
