Blu-ray Disc

The Blu-ray Disc format was released in 2006 as the successor to the DVD format and it can hold hours of high-definition video and up to 128 GB of data on a single disc. Blu-ray has the same physical dimensions as a CD or DVD, but the blue laser (thus the name) used to read the disc can handle the higher density of digital information. Aside from Blu-ray branding that might be on the disc, they often have a dark blue hue on the underside. Blu-ray has become the industry standard for the distribution of major motion pictures, video games for Sony Playstation and Microsoft Xbox, and sometimes for wedding videographers.
