Cyanotype

The cyanotype print process is easy to identify due its distinctive blue hue on a matte finish paper. This process was developed in 1842 and the first commercial cyanotype paper was released in France in 1872. The cyanotype was cheaper and simpler than other formats of the same era and was used for final prints or for test prints of more expensive silver-based processes. Through the 1900s the cyanotype process was used for creating “sunprints” and duplicating architectural blue prints. To this day cyanotypes are still a popular alternate photographic process.
