MicroMV

Developed by Sony as the smallest video tape format ever released, these tiny tapes are about the size of a small matchbox, and 70% smaller than MiniDV tapes. It’s a digital tape format that can record up to 60 minutes of MPEG2 video. The MicroMV format was convenient for it’s small size, but inconvenient because of it’s proprietary tape format, difficult conversion, and inconvenient editing. Only seven camera models were ever produced by Sony that recorded this format. The MicroMV format saw limited consumer adoption, and Sony discontinued MicroMV cameras in 2006 and MicroMV tapes in 2016.
