Albumen Print

Albumen prints were created with a photographic negative and 100% cotton paper that was treated with egg white and salt. The images are monochromatic and take on a rich purplish brown to a warm chocolate brown. Albumen prints can often be identified by their deterioration which often include yellowing, fading, and fine lateral cracks across the photo surface. You should also look for paper fibers visible through the photographic overlay. Albumen prints are very thin and are usually mounted on a carte de visite, cabinet card, or stereocard.
