SparQ

The SyQuest SparQ was another removable hard disk, similar to the Iomega Jaz, released in 1997. Each disk could hold 1GB of capacity, but the format suffered from serious quality issues. For example, if a removable disk went bad it could damage the drive upon insertion, which in turn could damage other disks. This pattern of cascading failure was unrecoverable for the disks and the company.

Reliability issues, warranty liabilities, and slow sales of SparQ drives were all major factors in SyQuests’s eventual bankruptcy and closure in 1998.
