Environmental Risks to Your Family Photos
It usually take years or decades for environmental factors like heat, humidity and mold to affect your family photos. However, some clients need help after sudden and catastrophic environmental damage.
Depending on the situation, your homeowners insurance might cover some or all of the recovery and restoration of your family photos. We’re happy to provide project estimates to your insurance company if you face any of these disasters:
Hurricanes
Devastating hurricanes can bring storm surge, flooding, and leaks that expose your photos to freshwater and saltwater damage. Even if your photos aren’t directly affected by water, extended power outages and high humidity after a hurricane can bring severe mold damage to your collection.
We’ve worked with clients in the mainland US and the Caribbean with post-hurricane recovery and hope you’ll contact us if you need help.
Tornadoes
Tornado damage can include water, mud, and abrasion. These are devastating storms, and we have experience cleaning, scanning, and preserving family memories from Tornado-ravaged communities.
Floods

Floods can be caused by storms, pipe leaks, or sewer backups. Regardless of the cause, urgent action must be taken to gather, clean, and dry photos to minimize mold and other damage.
If there’s not enough time or working space to clean and dry flood-damaged photos, freezing is a short-term option to stall mold growth. We have experience cleaning and preserving flood-damaged family photos and film reels and can help with your recovery.
Fires
House fires are one of the most sudden and scary disasters a family can suffer. Photo damage can range from minor smoke damage to complete loss, and fireproof safes don’t offer sufficient protection against melting stacks of photos.
