Estimating Printed Photos

Last week we had a new client drop off a small batch of photos she needed scanned for a memorial slideshow. To provide a quick estimate for her project we measure the stack of photos instead of counting them.

Did you know there are about 100 photos prints per stacked inch? I measured about two inches of photos and when were done her project there were exactly 199 scans. Another client recently dropped off a stack of photos 1.5 inches tall, and when we finished there were 153 scans.

For larger projects we usually receive printed photos stored in shoe boxes. After we remove the extra paper and skip the duplicates, there are usually 800-1,000 photos to scan in a full shoe box.

You can use these as reliable ways for estimating printed photos without wasting lots of time counting prints. You are also welcome to stop in and we’ll provide you with a free estimate before starting your scanning project.

Adam is working on a new course, Estimating Photo Organizing Projects, that addresses project estimating. Large photo organizing projects can be exciting, but they can also be full of unwelcome surprises that can affect the scope and price of the project. In this course Adam will share his expert tips for estimating large photo organizing projects and the process we use for client projects every day in our busy studio. Are you ready to tackle big projects with confidence? A new course full of help coming soon!

Adam’s nine other courses are available on our Courses Page.
