3.5” Hard Drive

The first 3.5” hard drive was released in 1983 by a Scottish company named Rodime. This format became the industry standard for desktop computers and has endured for more than 40 years. The 3.5” drive has had essentially the same form factor through the years, but around 2007 the connection type changed from the older and slower IDE connector to the newer and faster SATA connector.
