Digital 8

Introduced in 1999 by Sony, Digital8 was a digital video tape format for the consumer market. This format can record up to 60 minutes of video in SP (Standard Play) mode and up to 90 minutes in LP (Long Play) mode. Most Digital8 cameras could play recordings from the older Hi8 and Video8 formats, but older Hi8 and Video8 cameras cannot play newer Digital8 tapes.

These Sony models of Digital 8 camcorders cannot play tapes recorded in the Video 8 or Hi8 formats.
