Mini DVD-R

The mini DVD-R optical disc format was released as a smaller version of the DVD-R format for recording video content. Video cameras that recorded directly to mini DVD-R discs were released around 2003 and made it convenient to play footage in the camera or in a DVD player without the nuisance of fast-forwarding and rewinding video tapes. Most mini DVD-Rs are single sided, but some versions have video recorded on two layers or two sides, each of which must be finalized and converted separately.
