Solid State Drive (SSD)

Samsung introduced the first mainstream SSD drive with a 32GB model in 2006. Unlike previous hard drive technology, SSDs have no spinning platters or moving parts. This means that an SSD isn’t smaller and they still cost a lot more than conventional hard drives, but they’re up to 100 times faster than conventional spinning hard drives! SSD drives are becoming more affordable every year, are often used in laptop computers, and can also be mounted in an external hard drive enclosure.
