Redating Scanned Photos
If you take a photo with a digital camera in 2026, the digital date in the file will be 2026, and sort in chronological order as expected.
However, if you scan a printed photo from 1986 in the year 2026, the digital capture date will be off by forty years. If somebody in the future looks at those files they might think the scanned photo was taken in 2026, which could be confusing.
When you scan physical photos, it’s important to take the extra steps to re-date the digital files so that they reflect the original capture date, at least as accurately as you know it.
This extra work makes it easier to find and sort your scanned photos, both today and for generations to come. If you want to learn how we do this, check out our online course Fixing Dates of Digital Photos and Videos.
