Clik! (aka PocketZip)

Iomega released the Clik! storage format as a backup solution similar to their Zip disk format, but even smaller. There were also efforts to position Clik! as a digital storage format for MP3 players and digital cameras, but those didn’t catch on.

As the Clik! format struggled to get traction in the marketplace and Iomega was getting sued for the “click of death” problem with their Zip disks, the company rebranded Clik! drives as PocketZip. However, avoiding the click reference and leveraging their most popular product of all time still wasn’t enough to sway customers.

In 2001, Iomega announced a new 100MB edition, but it was never released. Despite multiple efforts, the Clik! format never caught on in the industry and was a commercial failure. Ultimately, Clik! was beat out my memory cards like Compact Flash and SD cards. The Clik!/PocketZip format was eventually discontinued by the early 2000s.
