CompactFlash

The CompactFlash format (aka CF card) was introduced by SanDisk in 1994. In 1996, Kodak released the DC25, the first production digital camera to use CompactFlash as a storage medium. What started out as a digital storage format for the consumer and professional market was eventually displaced by SD cards in the consumer market. However, CompactFlash still plays a role in the professional digital photography market more than 30 years later. The CompactFlash form factor has stayed the same, but the cards have grown in speed and storage capacity through the years.
