QXD

The QXD format was announced in 2010 by SanDisk, Sony, and Nikon and the first cards were released by Sony in 2012. These high-speed, high-capacity cards were designed to supersede the CompactFlash format and targeted at high-definition camcorders and high-resolution digital cameras. Faced with high prices, no backwards compatibility, and low market penetration, SanDisk never manufactured a QXD card despite helping to develop the standard. QXD cards were used in some high-end Nikon and Sony cameras, but wider industry adoption was almost non-existent and this is arguably an orphaned format. Some might confuse the QXD format with the xD-Picture format from 2002, but they have nothing in common other than a similar name.
